Back to Ezekiel…with fork in hand

forkEzekiel 3:1-3 (NASB)

1Then He said to me, “Son of man, eat what you find; (A)eat this scroll, and go, speak to the house of Israel.”  2So I (B)opened my mouth, and He fed me this scroll.  3He said to me, “Son of man, feed your stomach and (C)fill your body with this scroll which I am giving you ” Then I (D)ate it, and it was sweet as (E)honey in my mouth.

It’s been a while, but once again, I am chewing on the book of Ezekiel. And man…what a meal.

The three verses above really struck a chord with me.

Ezekiel, a man of God, was being instructed to eat the ‘book’ given to him. As children of God, we are instructed to do so everyday. But the book we are to “eat”  is a spiritual meal. It is the Living Word of God. The Bread of LIFE! In addition to having physical communion (as Jesus instructed in Luke 22:19), Ezekiel reminds us that we are also to have daily spiritual communion by “filling our bellies/souls” with the Word of the Lord.  And when we really dig in, we find that we are filling up on the Word who was,”…in the beginning” and who was “…WITH God” and who “WAS God“. (and yes, He still IS!)

Ezekiel shared the words the Lord had fed him to the House of Isreal. And we are told, by Jesus himself, to share the the Word of the Good News with everyone!  (Matthew 28: 16-20)  There have been too many times when I have “fed on the Bread”, but not reached out to share with others.

By reading the Bible and communicating with God (i.e. prayer, praise, worship), we are feeding on His Word! And Ezekiel, reminds us to do the same. And after a meal like that, how do we have the audacity to keep it to ourselves?

This is a tough book to digest!  What are your thoughts? How do these verses speak to you?

  1. Kelly – I couldn’t resist the fork. I figured with the “eating a meal” theme, the fork was appropriate. 🙂

It’s the world’s largest fork. click on the pic for more info! 🙂

  2. Have been a believer for almost 50 years. Only fell in love with the Word and have been consuming it for a couple years. Read it as a discipline before, read it out of hunger today. Great blog.
