Today is “free to rhyme (or not) Friday). Do you have your poetry hat on? If not, go find it. I’ll wait.
Okay, I can’t wait too long. I’ve got children to feed. Hurry up.
Found it? Good. Let’s get started…
Today’s poetry form: TETRACTYS!
If you’ve never heard of this type of poetry, read here for a brief history and good example and here for more examples and definition. If you don’t feel like heading to those sites, here is my summary…
Tetractys: created by Ray Stebbing. A 5 line poem (not including the title). Each line comprised of set number of syllables. 1, 2, 3, 4, 10. If you have a double Tetractys, you have 1, 2, 3, 4, 10 then 10, 4, 3, 2, 1 (it ends up looking like a diamond if you center the entire poem)

Sweet
friend and
nemesis
beckons me to
consume more calories than I expend
expanding the parts that should be shrinking
offending my
sense of style
and my
hips
To borrow from Dr. Seuss, “Try it. You’ll like it!” 🙂
And if you are feeling very adventurous, post your tetractys in the comment section!
Now for my good news: I received a manilla envelope in the mail today from Blue Mountain Arts. They want to put two of my poems/greeting cards in their test market. I sold them a card a couple years ago. So I’d be tickled pink to sell them another one!
Matter of fact, I’d be “pinker” than a flamingo! 🙂
