F2R(ornot): Finish the poem!

Hi y’all! Have you heard? It’s Free2Rhyme Friday again…and there is a poetry contest going on! If you haven’t yet entered, go HERE to find the information and where to enter. The contest ends soon, so get those entries in!

The winning entry will be awarded a… WAIT! I want to announce that the day I announce the winners, too.  It’s more fun that way. 🙂

In celebration of the poetry contest, today’s exercise is brainstorming! I’m going to start a poem below and you get to finish it and give it a title.  It can be as long or as short as you wish. Title it however you wish. I hope you’ll share it in the comment section below.

I think it will be neat to see all the different poems that can come from this! Here ya go…

UNTITLED

I woke up early (MUCH too early!)

right before the sun came up

Now day is dawning, I am yawning,

Time to fill my coffee cup…

    My Morning Cup

I woke up early (MUCH too early!)
right before the sun came up
Now day is dawning, I am yawning,
Time to fill my coffee cup…
    I open the canister,
    my scoop aimed and ready.
    But lo,
residue is all that’s on hand.
    I check the cubbard,
    behind soup and peas.
    Lord, please!
    But no coffee surplus here.
    What if…
I heat tea from the frig?
    But it’s caffeine-free
    and I need a jolt
    of ENERGY!
    Forget taking out the trash,
    washing dishes in the sink.
    I must stop at MCD’s
    before I get to work.
    Mental note to self’:
    Stop for coffee
    On the way home
even if I find no ENERGY
    for any other chores.

Hi Donna, here’s my first contribution to such as this. Hope you like it. And btw, I don’t drink coffee either. 🙂

    Morning!

I woke up early (MUCH too early!)
Right before the sun came up
Now day is dawning, I am yawning,
Time to fill my coffee cup …

I am so drowsy (far too drowsy)
Early rays are in my eyes
So this is morning, lovely morning
    Can we work a compromise?

The birds are chirping, oh! they’re chirping!
Too much for my sleepy head
My coffee’s cooling, this is gruelling …
I am going back to bed!

      Lynn,

BRAVO! Your poem is great. You really kept the rhythm and rhyme going and the repetitive pattern. I salute you. Wow I want you and Donna as tutors.

Lynn and Linda, you should both enter the poetry contest. You can find the rules here: https://wordwranglernc.wordpress.com/poetry-contest/

Thanks, Donna & Linda! I actually have a poem ready for the contest. At least it is as ready as I can make it because a couple of the prompts are hard to fit into the rhythm. It will have to do. 🙂

You don’t have to use all the prompts within your poem, just one. If you want to use a few or even all of them, that is fabulous! But don’t feel obligated to use more than one! 🙂

      hugs,
      Donna

Donna, I enjoy very much reading poetry, but writing it terrifies me. 😀

I’m loving all the poems I’ve read. So much musicality… 🙂

I get the paper (the Sunday paper)
time to read the days events
Do the crossword, read the comics
So not worth the fifty cents

I pour another (my third another)
And head up for a shower
I soap and scrub, a quick dry rub
    It’s still an Ungodly hour

The sun is rising (slowly rising)
    But clouds are sneaking in
I see a drop, they do not stop
I break out in a grin

I pull the shades (all 20 shades)
    And climb under the cover
The guilt is gone, I snuggle in,
    My dreams I will recover

      Cheryl,

I loved the humor, especially of pulling the 20 shades. Good one!
