Working it out Wednesday

Yesterday, I did something I’ve not done…ever. I jogged OVER a mile without stopping.  And I did it in under 13 minutes. I’ve wanted to do that for a long time, but never did.

Any other time I’d try, this is how it would go:

I’d jog for a while…then walk. Jog. Walk. If my breathing got too hard, I stopped. If I felt too weak or too tired, I slowed down or just stopped. I never pushed through it. I never got that second wind…

Until yesterday!

And ya know…I think sometimes that’s the way it is in the rest of my life.

I start something full force – a new friendship, writing something new, a new job — I’m out the gate, ready to go! Then, my breathing gets labored. It’s hard. It’s messy. It’s sticky. I don’t want to deal with the difficult situations that arise.

So I pull back or stop all together.

I don’t push through.

I don’t keep going until I get my “second wind”.

Isaiah 40:31 (AMP) But those who wait for the Lord [who expect, look for, and hope in Him] shall change and renew their strength and power; they shall lift their wings and mount up [close to God] as eagles [mount up to the sun]; they shall run and not be weary, they shall walk and not faint or become tired.

My “second wind”, physically and spiritually, comes from the Lord. When I wait for Him, instead of giving up, things are changed.

I am changed.

If there are things in your life today that are laborious, sticky or just harder than you imagined they would be, I pray you get your “second wind”. Wait on the Lord…He will do as He has promised!

    Donna,

This post is a good reminder that God is there to help us break through our limitations and see things through. I am also reminded that the answers we seek may not come through in the time frame we seek, but God’s timing is perfect. Congratulations on a fitness milestone.

Pushing through. Kinda’ like giving birth, you think?

Seriously, I know what you mean. Sometimes it seems so much easier to stop or slow down. But the victory comes only by keeping on keeping on with the Lord.

    Blessings,
    Jean

Exactly, Jean. Sometimes (most times) I try to rely on my own strength – but don’t realize it until I am about to drop everything I’ve been carrying around. Good thing He loves me! 🙂

Donna, you are doing so great! (Personally, I don’t care for running but I enjoy a brisk walk.)

I understand what you are talking about … I do that ‘pulling back’ thing all the time. It is not that I don’t trust God, but I think there are other things going on with me … I draw back, don’t want to push myself on people, so I wait. Usually I just disappear from their lives, I think, or I’ve faded into the background somewhere because who wants to bother these days? Even my writing is not happening- maybe because I don’t believe in my own ability.
Honestly, I am tired, weary maybe is a better word to use. Very soon my husband and I are going on vacation, the first one of this type in all our 30+ years of marriage. Flying west to visit two daughters, we really need it!! So, in the interim, life is on hold here and I hope it will take on a newness when I come back.
    Blessings! 🙂

It’s good to know I’m not the only one that struggles with it sometimes. We need to work on pushing through! 🙂 I’m so glad you get to go on vacation with your hubster. That is wonderful! It might be just the thing you need to help relax and shake things up a bit. Have fun and be careful!
