Write2ignite

It’s almost here. Tomorrow, in fact! I’ll be heading to Greenville, SC, to participate in a fabulous writing confererence, Write2Ignite! And this year, we’ll have a precious guest artist as part of our worship team, Lisa Albinus. She has graciously offered to donate her finished painting to write2ignite to be auctioned off, and for the monies to go back into funding future Write2ignite conferences!

A Snapshot of Write2ignite

by Sean Earnhardt

I’m not a writer; well, at least I don’t claim it as a profession, passion, or pastime. But I feel the need to write a little something today.

I spent my weekend doing something that a fair amount of guys would call torture; I attended a writers conference! A Christian writers conference, no less. The Write2Ignite conference held at North Greenville University in the foothills of South Carolina.

O.k., to be fair, this was not something that I had on my calendar for the year and awaited with intensifying eagerness.

Move Over Grumpy, it’s announcement time!

So Wednesday is usually my “Waking up Grumpy” post. But not today. NO sir! Today I have a few announcements I hope will brighten or enhance your life in some fantabulous way.

1. My Picture Book Love Contest is still in progress. If you haven’t signed up yet, read the details HERE and get your name on the list!

2. HUGE announcement for the Write2ignite conference…. The deadline has been extended! If you are planning to come, you now have until the Tuesday, February 15, 2011 at Midnight. You can check out the registration info HERE.

3. Okay, and this, well, this is just cool. My sweet friend and fellow blogger, Laura Renegar, shared a link with me last night. I’d love to hear what you think about it. Check it out here: http://bit.ly/hJM3UQ  I’ll give you a hint. It involves the Uwaharrie National Forest, Animal Planet and something big and hairy that is NOT a bear. Yeah. Go ahead and check out the link. You know you’re curious!

I went hiking in Uwharrie last weekend. I’m glad we got out of there before dark! 🙂

Write2ignite Updates

If you haven’t seen the latest blog post on Write2Ignite, I encourage you to do so! Jill Roman Lord shares the BEAUTY OF CRITIQUES. (Yes, there is beauty in critiques. You just have to know how to find it!)

Next week, two of our conference team members will be interviewed! I’ll have more details this weekend in a special post. Check back!

And last but not least, we will have some guest blog posts by our conference presenters. I’ll have more details next week!

If you have questions, post them below. Looking forward to seeing you in February!

Favorite quotes Friday

I don’t know if you’ve noticed, but I have a new blogging schedule. (See the block to the right of this post?) And shocker — I stuck to it this week!

Monday was “Still learning (God, family, homeschool & Life)” – I wrote about homeschooling on “snowdays”.

Tuesday was Writing for children, teens and YA – I shared a varied list for teens and why it’s important we don’t put ourselves in a box when writing.

Wednesday was Waking up Grumpy (parenting) – I wrote about making my children cry. *sigh*

Thursday was Write2ignite updates – Exactly what it sounds like! And yes, I shared all the up-to-date fabulous news on Write2ignite.

And today? Well, today is Friday. And that means that it’s
Quotes that stick (my fave quotes)” day!   That means I’ll share some great quotes – and ask you to share your faves with me, too. You can always tell me if you like any of the quotes I’ve listed and if they gave you a LIGHTBULB (see Despicable Me for accent, please). Of course, sharing your lightbulb moments and fave quotes is purely voluntary (as is reading this post), but also greatly appreciated! 🙂

Let’s start out with some Chinese proverbs. NOTE: I can’t find a site that gives me a credible “yes, these are actual chinese proverbs/sayings…but they still make me think!

  1. A crisis is an opportunity riding the dangerous wind.
  2. A person who say it cannot be done should not interrupt the man doing it.
  3. Black cat or white cat: If it can catch mice, it’s a good cat
  4. Dig the well before you are thirsty.
  5. Be not afraid of growing slowly, be afraid only of standing still.
  6. You can hardly make a friend in a year, but you can easily offend one in an hour.
  7. Be not disturbed at being misunderstood; be disturbed rather at not being understanding.

(The above quotes were found on the internet, but many over on http://thinkexist.com)

So – what do you think? Have you heard these before? Did they stir you in anyway…good, bad or ugly?

Scholarships available!

If you are planning to come to the Write2Ignite conference in Greenville (February 18-19), but aren’t sure how to pay for tuition…fear not!
