PERSPECTIVE

For those who have gone through menopause…are going through it…or will in the future!

I was but a child, my friends,
and didn’t understand.
Yet now, at 51, I see;
my knowledge is first hand!

The insight I will share is true,
You need to know, no doubt…
Menopause—that horrid beast!—
can chew and spit you out.

The heat—the heat—The ghastly heat!
It rises from within;
It sets my mind and clothes afire
and melts away my skin.

You’d think some tears might cool the flames
But no—it only fans them.
For if I try to cage the flood?
The dam just causes mayhem.

Yes, tears they flow–
so many tears!–
No matter what I’m feeling.
(And though I hate to cry so much…
the process can be healing!)

And through it all–the fire and flood–
I grow more introspective.
For living as a human torch…
It helps bring new perspective!

I’m told, one day, the fire will fade—
and “cold” will be my lot.
But until then, my sweet, sweet friends…
just call me “Super-Hot”.
